Breaking the Rules is part concert/part one-man play, exploring the extraordinary life and music of Carlo Gesualdo, known for murdering his first wife, as well as for his distinctive musical voice. Marking the 450th anniversary of Gesualdo’s birth, this musically superb production is brought to the Corn Exchange by one of the UK’s leading vocal ensembles at the top of their game.
In Breaking the Rules we enter the haunted world of 16th-century composer Gesualdo. Nearing the end of his days, he relives the horror of his actions, his anguished memories interspersed with virtuosic performances of his exquisite music.
“Exquisite ... the ensemble sings with eloquence and expressive finesse.” The Sunday Times
