NYJO is world-famous as a glittering showcase for the country’s best young musicians. Since its founding in 1965, most of the current generation of top British jazz musicians have risen through its ranks, often becoming established jazz stars whilst still playing with the band.
One of NYJO’s aims is to share the talents of exciting young players with as wide an audience as possible, and tonight’s show will appeal to all ages, with a programme from this 30-strong band – plus vocalists – featuring standards from such enduringly popular composers as Gershwin, Porter and Ellington.
From a hard-swinging rhythm section to hugely talented young soloists, this is a big band in fine form.
“... not only did they manage to mesmerize an audience spanning generations but they did so with astounding ease.” Thornbury Arts Festival
