One of the finest orchestras in the world, the Moscow Philharmonic was founded in 1951, since when it has been conducted by some of the most respected artists and composers of the day including, from 1998, its Chief Conductor Yuri Simonov.
Tonight’s all-Russian programme includes two of the most popular ballet suites: Prokofiev’s Romeo & Juliet and Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, in addition to his Piano Concerto No.1, a centrepiece of romantic Russian repertoire.
We are delighted that for this splendid last night of the 2017 Festival the orchestra is joined by Japanese star pianist Noriko Ogawa.
“The performance was witty and compelling, and was followed by not one, nor two, but three encores.” Wales Online
